Pneumatics and compressed air market outlook: understand demand and put sales in context.

Understand the global market and what is changing in the countries that matter to your business.

Demand for pneumatic and compressed-air equipment comes from new machinery, expanding production, replacement equipment, maintenance and improvements to existing systems. Those activities move at different speeds across countries and industries.

Airmotion Directory brings together market estimates and economic indicators, with interpretation to help readers understand what the numbers could mean for equipment demand.

How large is the global market?

Two related markets provide useful starting points:

Pneumatic components: An estimated US$27.6 billion globally in 2025, covering valves, actuators, air-treatment components and other pneumatic components. Source: Grand View Research

Air compressors: An estimated US$26.57 billion globally in 2024, covering stationary and portable air compressors. Source: Grand View Research

These are separate research categories. They do not provide a complete valuation of every product, service or transaction across the compressed-air supply chain.

Most of the market is outside the United States

The United States accounts for an estimated 18.7% of global pneumatic-component revenue and 12.9% of global air-compressor revenue in those respective years. That leaves approximately 81% and 87% outside the U.S. Pneumatic components source · Air compressors source

China represents an estimated 19.1% of pneumatic components and 20.9% of air compressors. Germany, Japan and India are also substantial markets in both categories. China pneumatic components · China air compressors

Country market share describes revenue attributed to that market. It should not be confused with the headquarters location of the manufacturers supplying it.

Estimated global demand by country: 12 countries account for 69.6% of pneumatic-component revenue in 2025; 14 account for 80.9% of air-compressor revenue in 2024

What the indicators can tell you

Three drivers of pneumatic and compressed-air demand: factory activity, equipment investment and purchasing decisions.

Production activity helps show whether customer industries are making more or less. The relevant sector often matters more than the national average.

Machinery and equipment orders provide evidence of investment intentions. Orders can be delayed or cancelled, and higher order values can reflect higher prices.

Capacity utilization shows how intensively existing facilities are operating. Rising utilization can support investment, but it does not establish when equipment will be purchased.

Pneumatic and compressor orders or shipments, where available, provide a more direct view of the sector.

Energy prices, financing costs and trade conditions affect purchasing costs and the case for replacement or efficiency projects.

Taken together, these indicators help explain the direction of demand. No single measure predicts every supplier’s annual sales.

About the figures

Market sizes are commercial research estimates. Economic indicators come from the sources identified in each country report.

Reference years, release dates and forecast periods are shown separately. Forecasts describe an expected outcome, not sales already achieved.
